Improvised explosive devices continue to be the single largest cause of US and Coalition casualties. Over 20% more explosive devices have been implanted over the past year and Military analysts are expecting this trend to continue through the spring and summer of 2012.

Even though IEDs have continued to increase, so has the success rate of detecting and defeating these devices. With a 40% improvement in Detect and Defeat combined with increased Attack the Network Efforts the tide has begun to turn. However, with implanted explosive devices on the rise advancement in tools and technology used to fight the IED are essential to continue successful improvements in defeating the threat.
